Why it exists
Chat is only the surface.
Hermaeus manages the local AI system around conversation: models and runtimes, projects, retrieval and knowledge, Recall, long-term memory, supervised agents, benchmarking, diagnostics, controlled Lab experiments, and optional voice services.
The core principle is simple: context, citations, runtime behaviour, memory, experiment evidence, and agent actions should remain transparent, reviewable, and under the user’s control.
- Native chat with Context Inspector, answer receipts, and conversation branching
- Recall search across conversations, Agent tasks, memories, and RAG chunks
- Local RAG with watched sources, citations, traces, and budget-aware packing
- Supervised Agent Workbench with a review queue and recorded outcomes

Hermaeus is beta software. Windows and Pop!_OS with COSMIC are exercised; other Linux and hardware combinations remain less exercised. Release binaries are unsigned, so verify the published SHA256 companion before accepting an operating-system warning.
